10 Most Fun Movies With Bad Acting

January 10, 2022 | Benjamin Carpenter

“Great” bad movies have many qualities that we adore. Bad CGI, poorly made scripts, strange dialogue, and all of that is topped off with terrible acting performances.

Movies with bad acting and that are terribly made make the best type of comedies, especially when they are unintentional. Many of those poorly made but fun films were made in the 80s and 90s, when the modern era of Hollywood was still molding and finding itself. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t also gems that come out of the 21st century.

We’ve already gone through the best terrible movies to watch. This blog post will go through the 10 most fun movies to watch with bad acting.

10 Best Bad Acting Movies

10. I Know Who Killed Me

Lindsay Lohan charmingly played twins in The Parent Trap as a 12-year-old, but that wasn’t the only time she played two different characters in the same movie. Not many people know about Lohan’s second time playing two different characters in the psychological thriller, I Know Who Killed Me. The movie is about a missing young woman who reappears and claims to be someone else entirely. It’s a miracle that Lohan’s career survived this thriller as it is the worst performance of her career and perhaps one of the worst of all time.

9. The I-land

The I-Land is not a movie but rather a Netflix series released in 2019. Despite having an intriguing premise and a decent B-tier cast, the Netflix Original is one of the worst series ever created. The actors give terrible performances and the writing is not only bad but also confusing. Starring Natalie Martinez, Kate Bosworth, and Alex Pettyfer, the I-land is about 10 people who suspect that things are not what they seem after waking up on a treacherous island with no memories. It may be hard to get through the entire series, but most of the standout moments are in the first two episodes.

8. Batman Forever

Batman & Robin is infamously known for its cheesy lines and terrible acting. However, Batman Forever is just as bad in every way. Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones play the villains in the film and they make sure to be extremely over the top. The movie follows Batman as he battles the former district attorney Harvey Dent, who is now Two-Face, and Edward Nygma, who is now The Riddler. Batman Forever is a different type of superhero film than the ones today. Corny, exaggerated, and a whole lot of fun.

7. The Happening

When it comes to M. Night Shyamalan, his movies are either a hit or a miss. There is no in-between. The Sixth Sense was seen as a huge hit on its initial release, whereas The Happening was a huge miss. In fact, The Happening is terrible in almost every aspect, and the bad acting is what makes it stand out among the rest. The movie is about a science teacher, his wife, and a young girl who struggle to survive a plague that causes those infected to commit suicide. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel are the leading actors in the film and they haven’t lived it down since. The Happening may seem like a miss but in many film lovers’ eyes, the movie is one of Shyamalan’s most entertaining movies.

6. Showgirls

Anyone who has watched the “I’m so excited!” scene from Saved By The Bell knows that Elizabeth Berkley doesn’t always give the best performances, especially when she’s in the leading role. Paul Verhoeven, however, saw potential in Elizabeth Berkley and he casts her in his 1995 film, Showgirls. Showgirls is one of the most infamous movies to ever exist in cinema. It’s credited with ruining both Elizabeth Berkley’s career and Paul Verhoeven’s. Only recently has there been a surge of popularity for the film. Not because it’s good, but rather because it’s really bad. The film follows a young drifter as she arrives in Las Vegas and claws her way to the top of the Vegas showgirls. Showgirls holds many records. It is the first NC-17 feature film, with lots of nudity, to be released in theaters and it’s also one of the most glorious calamities to exist in film history.

5. Super Mario Bros.

The 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie will disappoint most fans of the video game franchise. However, for fans of “great” bad movies, the video game adaptation is one of the most entertaining video game movies of all time. The film follows two Brooklyn plumber brothers who must travel to another dimension to rescue a princess from an evil dictator and stop him from taking over the world. Everyone in the cast gives terrible performances, but Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper manage to shine in their given roles by not taking the movie too seriously. Whether the directors meant to or not, Super Mario Bros. is an unintentional comedy that has special effects that will fuel your nightmares.

4. The Room

If you love to watch movies with bad acting, then you’ve probably heard of The Room. The Room has arguably the worst acting of any film and it’s one of the most praised disasters in cinematic history. What sets this awful film apart from the rest is its director and lead actor, Tommy Wiseau. Not only is Wiseau as unique as they come, but he also has no awareness of the general guidelines that films follow. This fact alone is what makes The Room an incredibly entertaining and unpredictable experience. The movie is about the wife of a successful bank executive who decides to seduce her husband’s best friend and from there, their lives change forever.

3. Dungeons And Dragons Movie

The fantasy genre has had a long road to being respected and convincing to audiences. The release of Lord of the Rings in 2001 was the most successful fantasy movie at the time and it pioneered the way for the creation of fantasy epics today. Dungeons and Dragons, however, was released a year before Lord of the Rings. The film suffers from several of the same weaknesses that other fantasy movies had at the time. Bad CGI, a weak narrative, and, of course, terrible acting to name a few. However, Dungeons and Dragons was so entertainingly bad that it actually managed to become memorable. The movie is about a tyrant who attempts to overthrow a peaceful kingdom ruled by a tough empress. The talented Jeremy Irons stars in the film and it’s clear from the first scene that he’s having fun with the role.

2. Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2

Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2 barely counts as a film. Half of the horror movie is spent recapping the events of the first movie without any extra information. The latter half is what viewers are wanting to see, Eric Freeman putting his all into a terrible performance. The movie is about the now-adult Ricky who talks to a psychiatrist about how he became a murderer after his brother, Billy, died. Freeman is always over the top and unconvincing in Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2. His performance alone makes the horror one of the best movies with bad acting to watch.

1. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

Video game movie adaptations don’t have a good reputation in the film industry. Most of them aren’t respected by critics and audiences alike. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is one of the most notorious video game films not because it was excellent, but because it was awful. The acting, dialogue, and special effects are all laughably bad and weren’t intended by the director to be comedic at all. The movie is about a group of martial arts warriors who have only six days to save the Earth from an extra-dimensional invasion. Watching the opening scene alone is enough for you to understand the journey you’re about to go on and it only gets “better” from there.

Bad Movies That Turned Into Happy Accidents

It’s easy to be critical of a film and say that it’s terrible. However, there are many positive things you can get from bad movies. Many bad movies have a lot of entertainment value, especially for a group. Sometimes the best movie experiences are the ones that aren’t the highest quality and are bad in all of the right ways. Even though we see box office revenue as a definition of success, movies are made to entertain and as long as a film finds its audience, it can become successful in its own way.
